ConcenTrace and full-spectrum drops

ConcenTrace Trace Mineral Drops are a low-sodium concentrate of ionic minerals from Utah's Great Salt Lake. The label says adults should start with 10 drops a day for the first three days and build up to 40 drops (2.5ml) spread through the day, or add 20 to 40 drops per gallon to remineralise filtered water. ConcenTrace also comes as capsules and tablets, alongside Utah Sea Minerals.

Single trace minerals

  • Selenium: Trace Minerals Ionic Selenium 300mcg and Ultra Lyte Ionic Selenium. Selenium contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to normal thyroid function. The NHS says 350μg or less a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm.
  • Iodine: OstroVit Iodine tablets and Trace Minerals Liquid Ionic Iodine. Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function.
  • Chromium: capsules from Essensey and liquids from Ultra Lyte and Trace Minerals. Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.
  • Copper and boron: liquid ionic drops. Copper contributes to the normal function of the immune system; boron has no authorised claim.

Potassium and electrolytes

Potassium contributes to normal muscle function and to the maintenance of normal blood pressure. Choose 99mg capsules from NOW Foods or Trec, Essensey Potassium Forte, or NOW Foods Potassium Chloride Powder for larger measured servings. For training, Max-Hydrate Endurance tablets dissolve in water; the full drinks range is in Electrolytes & Hydration.

Trace Minerals & Electrolytes: your questions answered

What is ConcenTrace?

ConcenTrace is Trace Minerals' low-sodium concentrate of ionic minerals from the Great Salt Lake in Utah. You add drops to water or juice, building up gradually to the label serving.

Why are potassium capsules only 99mg?

Potassium capsules are conventionally limited to 99mg each, a small share of the 3,500mg adults need daily from food. Powder lets you measure a larger serving, but follow the label exactly.

Should older people take potassium supplements?

Only if a doctor advises it. The NHS warns that older people may be less able to clear excess potassium, and anyone with kidney problems or on blood pressure medicine should check first.

Can children use ConcenTrace drops?

The label gives a children's serving based on body weight, but check with a pharmacist or GP before giving any mineral supplement to a child.

How do I use Max-Hydrate effervescent tablets?

Drop one tablet into 4 to 6 oz (about 120 to 180ml) of water, let it dissolve and add more water to taste. Use it before, during or after training.
