Stress Support

Stress Support stocks ashwagandha in capsule, tablet and gummy form, including KSM-66 root extracts from Trec Nutrition and Essensey and fruit-flavoured gummies from Trace Minerals, alongside Boiron's homeopathic StressCalm tablets and the SleepCalm range for evenings.

Comparing the ashwagandha options

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a traditional Ayurvedic root. It has no authorised health claims in the UK, so compare products on extract type, format and amount per serving:

Safety first

The Food Standards Agency is reviewing the safety of ashwagandha supplements and has advised pregnant women and people with liver conditions to avoid them while that work continues. Ashwagandha may also be unsuitable if you have a thyroid condition or take medication, so speak to a pharmacist or GP first. Never take more than the label's daily amount, and avoid taking two ashwagandha products at once.

Homeopathic and nutrient alternatives

Boiron StressCalm is a homeopathic medicine (Argentum nitricum) labelled for occasional stress, nervousness and irritability in adults and children 12 and over. It is non-drowsy and dissolves in the mouth. If you prefer a nutrient with an authorised claim, magnesium contributes to normal psychological function; you will find the magnesium range in Sleep, Stress & Mood. For bedtime products, see Sleep Support.

Stress Support: your questions answered

What is KSM-66 ashwagandha?

KSM-66 is a branded, standardised ashwagandha root extract. Trec and Essensey each offer a KSM-66 capsule, and the label shows the amount per serving.

Can I take ashwagandha while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. The Food Standards Agency has advised pregnant women to avoid ashwagandha supplements while it reviews their safety, and you should check with your GP or midwife before taking any supplement while breastfeeding.

Capsules, tablets or gummies: which should I choose?

Choose the format you will take consistently. Capsules and tablets usually give more extract per serving, while gummies are easier to take but may contain sugar, so read the label.

Will Boiron StressCalm make me drowsy?

It is labelled as non-drowsy, and the tablets dissolve in the mouth without water. Follow the dose on the pack.

Can I take ashwagandha with other medicines?

Ask a pharmacist first, particularly if you take thyroid medication, sedatives, or medicines for blood pressure or diabetes, as interactions are possible.
