How to apply it
Cleanse the skin thoroughly before applying. Apply a thin layer over the entire affected area 1-3 times daily. If dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application to once a day. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children.

Is 5% a good strength to start with?
Yes — 5% is the lower of the two Rugby benzoyl peroxide strengths we sell, and Rugby's labels note that mild irritation can be reduced by using a lower concentration. Rugby Acne Cream 10% is the step up, and for something milder we stock Neutrogena Stubborn Acne AM Treatment with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
How often do I apply it?
Cleanse your skin thoroughly, then cover the entire affected area with a thin layer 1 to 3 times a day. If dryness or peeling becomes bothersome, cut back to once a day.
What does it feel like on the skin?
It's a greaseless, vanishing gel rather than a cream; the carton reads Benzoyl Peroxide Gel USP, 5%. A thin layer of Rugby Acne Cream 5% doesn't leave a shiny film, so it sits easily under a light moisturiser.
Do I need sunscreen while using it?
Yes — the label says to avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use a sunscreen while using benzoyl peroxide. PanOxyl AM Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30, which we stock, is one daytime option.
Will it bleach my pillowcase?
It can, because benzoyl peroxide may bleach hair and dyed fabrics. Let the gel dry fully before bed and use white towels and pillowcases if you can.
Who shouldn't use it?
Don't use it if you have very sensitive skin or know you're sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, and keep it away from your eyes, lips and mouth. Stop if irritation becomes severe, and see a doctor if it continues.
