What strength is OXY Sensitive Skin Acne Cream Cleanser?
It contains 5% benzoyl peroxide (micro BPO), half the strength of 10% cleansers. The US Drug Facts list it for the treatment of acne: it clears pimples, helps control blackheads and whiteheads and helps prevent new pimples forming.
How do I use it?
Wet your face, work a little into your hands and massage it gently over the skin; you can leave it on for 1–2 minutes, then rinse well and pat dry. Start once a day and build up to 2 or 3 times a day only if your skin copes, following with a non-comedogenic moisturiser if needed.
It's for sensitive skin, so why does the label mention very sensitive skin?
The label says not to use it if you have very sensitive skin or are sensitive to benzoyl peroxide. Redness, burning, itching, peeling or swelling can occur; cut back to once a day or every other day, and stop and ask a doctor if irritation becomes severe.
Will it bleach my towels?
It can. Benzoyl peroxide may bleach hair and dyed fabrics, so use white towels and pillowcases and keep the cleanser away from your hairline. Avoid the eyes, lips and mouth too.
Can I use it with other acne treatments?
Using another topical acne medication at the same time makes irritation and dryness more likely; if that happens, use only one. Benzoyl peroxide also makes sun exposure harder on skin, so wear sunscreen after using it.

OXY 10 Maximum Strength Acne Cleanser, which we also stock, has 10% benzoyl peroxide. This OXY Sensitive cleanser has 5% in a creamier base, so it's the one to start with if your skin reacts easily; if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a health professional before using either.
