How much zinc is in each softgel?
30mg of elemental zinc from 150mg of Albion zinc bisglycinate, which is 300% of the UK reference intake, plus 250mg of cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil.
Is 30mg of zinc a day safe long term?
It's a high dose. The NHS advises not taking more than 25mg of zinc supplements a day unless a doctor advises it, because too much zinc reduces how much copper you absorb, so ask your GP or pharmacist before taking NOW Zinc Glycinate daily for months and don't stack it with other zinc products.
Why zinc glycinate in a softgel?
Zinc bisglycinate is zinc bound to the amino acid glycine (a chelate), here made by Albion. NOW suspends it in pumpkin seed oil, and the label says to take one softgel with a meal, which also helps if zinc on an empty stomach makes you queasy.
What does zinc do?
Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system, the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails, normal fertility and reproduction, and the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
How long does the bottle last?
One bottle of NOW Zinc Glycinate lasts 120 days, or about four months, at one softgel a day with a meal.
Is it vegetarian or soy-free?
Neither. The softgel is bovine gelatin, and it contains beeswax and soy lecithin. It isn't made with wheat, gluten, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients.
Can I take it with antibiotics or other medicines?
Ask your pharmacist about timing, because zinc can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics. The label also says to consult a doctor if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition; it's for adults only.
