What is TMG?
TMG (trimethylglycine) is betaine anhydrous, and each NOW Foods TMG tablet contains 1,000mg. The label serving is three tablets, giving 3g of betaine.
What does betaine do?
Betaine contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism, and the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 1.5g. Two tablets a day takes you past that amount.
How many tablets should I take?
NOW's directions are one to three tablets twice a day, preferably with food. The 100 tablets last 50 days at two a day, or 33 days at the three-tablet serving.
Is there a maximum I should stay under?
Yes, keep to 4g of betaine a day or less, because daily intakes above 4g may significantly raise blood cholesterol levels. The top of NOW's range (three tablets twice a day) is 6g, so most people stay at four tablets or fewer.
Is TMG the same as the betaine in pre-workouts?
Yes, betaine anhydrous in sports formulas and TMG are the same compound. NOW TMG gives it as a plain 1,000mg tablet, so you control the dose without a stimulant blend.
Why do people take TMG with B12?
