What's in each tablet?
1,000mg of vitamin C as ascorbic acid (1,250% of the UK reference intake), 25mg of rose hips powder (Rosa canina) and 25mg of citrus bioflavonoid complex.
How many should I take?
One tablet a day, so the bottle of 100 lasts just over three months. The tablets are large, so take them with a drink and ideally with food.
What does vitamin C do?
Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin and the protection of cells from oxidative stress. It also increases iron absorption.
Will 1,000mg upset my stomach?
Most people are fine at one tablet: the NHS says under 1,000mg of vitamin C a day is unlikely to cause harm, while larger amounts can cause stomach pain or diarrhoea. Taking NOW C-1000 with a meal is gentler if your stomach is sensitive.
This or the Sustained Release version?
We also stock NOW Vitamin C-1000 with Rose Hips Sustained Release (100 tablets). Both give 1,000mg; the sustained-release tablet lets the vitamin C out gradually, while this one dissolves normally and adds 25mg of citrus bioflavonoids.
Is it vegan and gluten-free?
Yes, NOW labels it vegetarian/vegan, with microcrystalline cellulose, a vegetarian coating and vegetable magnesium stearate. It isn't made with wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients.
