What's in each Super Enzymes tablet?
200mg betaine HCl, 100mg ox bile extract, 45mg papaya fruit powder and a 182mg enzyme blend: pancreatin 10X (amylase, protease and lipase), bromelain from pineapple, papain from papaya, cellulase and pepsin. Each tablet also has 20mg of calcium.
When do I take it?
One NOW Super Enzymes tablet with a meal, per the label. With each of three meals the 90 tablets last a month; with your main meal only, about three months.
Does NOW Super Enzymes contain animal ingredients?
Yes. The pancreatin and pepsin are porcine (from pigs) and the ox bile is bovine, so it isn't suitable for vegetarians, vegans or anyone avoiding pork.
Is there a version without pork?
OstroVit Digezyme, which we also stock, uses enzymes made by fermentation instead of animal pancreatin. It's one tablet a day and contains no betaine or ox bile.
Who shouldn't take it?
NOW Super Enzymes is for adults only. The label says to consult a doctor first if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication (especially blood thinners), or have a medical condition, including an allergy to papaya or pineapple.
Will Super Enzymes stop my bloating?
We can't promise that, as digestive enzymes have no authorised health claims in the UK. Ongoing bloating, pain or a change in bowel habit should be checked by your GP rather than managed with a supplement.
