What's in two capsules of Thyroid Energy?
Iodine 225mcg, selenium 50mcg, zinc 25mg, copper 1mg, vitamin B6 2mg, folic acid 400mcg and vitamin B12 60mcg. On top of those come 1,000mg free-form L-tyrosine and 125mg ashwagandha root and leaf extract (min 2.5% withanolides).
What do the iodine and selenium do?
Iodine contributes to normal thyroid function and to the normal production of thyroid hormones, and selenium contributes to normal thyroid function. The 225mcg of iodine in NOW Thyroid Energy is 150% of the UK reference intake.
How do I take it, and how long does the bottle last?
Two capsules a day, ideally split between two meals. The 90 capsules last 45 days. The capsules are vegetarian (hypromellose) and not made with wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients.
I take thyroid medication. Can I use it?
Talk to your GP first. The label asks anyone taking thyroid, mood-altering or sedative medication, or with a diagnosed thyroid condition or ulcers, to consult a doctor; Thyroid Energy is a food supplement, not a substitute for prescribed treatment.
Can I take it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — NOW labels Thyroid Energy for adults only and not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.
Any side effects?
The label mentions mild, short-lived stomach upset in some people; stop if it carries on, or if a rash or itching appears. Taking the capsules with food is the label's own advice.
Thyroid Energy or plain iodine drops?
Trace Minerals Liquid Ionic Iodine, which we also stock, is a single-nutrient option for iodine alone. Thyroid Energy combines iodine with selenium, zinc, B vitamins, tyrosine and ashwagandha, so don't add extra iodine on top without checking your total.
