What's in a serving of NOW Liver Caps?
Two capsules give 1g (1,000mg) of defatted Argentine beef liver powder, 100mg of organic eleuthero root (Siberian ginseng) and 100mg of milk thistle extract standardised to 80mg of silymarin.
How many do I take, and how long does the bottle last?
Two capsules a day, so the 100 capsules last 50 days. Most people take them with a meal, the way you'd eat liver as a food.
What does defatted beef liver mean?
Most of the fat is removed before the liver is dried and powdered, leaving the lean liver tissue. NOW sources it from Argentine cattle.
Will Liver Caps detox my liver?
We can't promise that. Beef liver, milk thistle and eleuthero have no authorised health claims in the UK, so we don't repeat the liver-health wording on the US bottle of NOW Liver Caps; we tell you what's in it and how much.
Is it suitable for vegetarians?
No, the liver is bovine and the capsule is bovine gelatin. It isn't made with yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, corn, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients.
Who should check before taking it?
NOW's label says adults only, and to consult a doctor first if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition.
Liver Caps or NOW Milk Thistle Double Strength?
Liver Caps is mainly beef liver, with a modest 80mg of silymarin per two capsules. If milk thistle is what you want, NOW Milk Thistle Extract with Artichoke & Dandelion gives 240mg of silymarin in one vegan capsule.
