What does pantothenic acid do?
Pantothenic acid contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal mental performance. It also contributes to the normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, vitamin D and some neurotransmitters.
How do I take it, and how long does the bottle last?
One capsule a day with a meal, per the NOW label. At that rate the 100-capsule bottle of NOW Pantothenic Acid lasts 100 days.
Is 500mg a lot?
Yes — it's about 83 times the 6mg UK reference intake for vitamin B5. Keep to one capsule a day, and if you also take a B-complex or multivitamin, add up the pantothenic acid from each and ask a pharmacist if unsure.
Is it suitable for vegetarians?
NOW's current label uses a hypromellose (plant cellulose) capsule with vegetable-source stearic acid. Some older versions of this bottle used a gelatine capsule, so check the panel on the one you receive.
