What's the active ingredient in Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit?
2% salicylic acid, labelled in the US as an acne treatment, in an oil-free, soap-free cleanser with grapefruit extract and vitamin C (as ascorbyl palmitate). This 9.1 fl oz (269ml) pump bottle is the large size.
How do I use it?
Wet your face, work a pump of the wash into a lather in your hands, massage it gently over your face avoiding the eyes, then rinse thoroughly. Most people use it morning and evening; if your skin gets dry, use it once a day.
Is a wash-off cleanser strong enough to help breakouts?
For oily skin and mild breakouts, often yes: it carries 2% salicylic acid, the top of the US over-the-counter range, and because you rinse it off it's gentler than a leave-on treatment. If you want longer contact, add a separate leave-on product rather than leaving the wash on your face.
Can I use it with benzoyl peroxide?
Yes, but go gently. The label warns dryness and irritation are more likely if you use another topical acne medication at the same time, and to use only one if irritation occurs; Neutrogena Stubborn Acne AM Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%, which we also stock, is a lower-strength option to pair it with.
Does it smell strongly of grapefruit?
It has a fresh pink grapefruit scent from added fragrance and grapefruit extract, and it's coloured pink. If you react to fragrance or cosmetic dyes, check the ingredient list on the bottle first.
Can I use it on my body too?
It's made as a facial cleanser. For chest and back, Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash Pink Grapefruit, which we also stock, comes in the same scent as a body wash.
Any safety warnings?
It's for external use only; if it gets in your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water. Keep it out of reach of children, and if swallowed, get medical help straight away.
