What's the active ingredient?
2% salicylic acid, listed in the US Drug Facts as an acne treatment; the spray's labelled use is simply 'for the treatment of acne'. It's fragrance-free in an alcohol-based mist.
How do I use the spray?
Clean the skin thoroughly, then cover the whole affected area with a thin layer one to three times a day. Start with one application a day and build up to two or three only if needed or as a doctor directs.
What if my skin gets dry or flaky?
Cut back to once a day or every other day; the label warns excessive drying can happen. Irritation is also more likely if you use another topical acne medicine at the same time, so stick to one if irritation occurs.
Do I need sunscreen while using it?
Yes. Neutrogena Stubborn Body Acne Spray also contains glycolic acid, an AHA, and its sunburn alert says this may increase sun sensitivity. Use sunscreen, cover up and limit sun exposure while using it and for a week afterwards.
Any other safety points?
It's flammable, so keep it away from fire or flame. It's for external use only: keep it out of your eyes (flush with water if it gets in) and away from children, and get medical help if it's swallowed.
Spray or the Stubborn Body Acne cleanser?
The spray is a leave-on 2% salicylic acid treatment for spots you can't reach with a cream. Neutrogena Stubborn Body Acne 250ml, which we also stock, is a 1% salicylic acid wash you rinse off; using both raises the chance of dryness, so build up slowly.
