What's in each Essensey Vitamin B Complex capsule?
One capsule gives thiamine 20 mg, riboflavin 20 mg, niacin 20 mg, pantothenic acid 20 mg, vitamin B6 10 mg, folic acid 160 µg, vitamin B12 20 µg and biotin 20 µg. It also adds 20 mg inositol, 20 mg PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) and 8 mg choline.
How do I take it, and how long does a tub last?
One capsule a day with a good drink of water, during or after a meal; that single capsule is the full daily portion. The 90 capsules last 90 days, which matches the label's advice to finish an opened tub within 3 months.
What do the B vitamins actually do?
Riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and thiamine, riboflavin, B6, B12 and biotin contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism. That is what the "Anti-Fatigue" line on the Essensey label refers to.
Some amounts are over 1,000% of the reference intake. Is that a problem?
The big percentages are thiamine (1,818%) and riboflavin (1,429%), both water-soluble vitamins. Vitamin B6 is 10 mg, the most the NHS says is unlikely to cause harm from supplements each day, so don't add a second B6 product on top. Riboflavin at this dose often turns urine bright yellow, which is harmless.
Can I take it while pregnant, or give it to my children?
No. The Essensey label says children and pregnant or breastfeeding women must not take this product. Its 160 µg of folic acid is also below the 400 µg the NHS advises before and in early pregnancy, so ask your GP or pharmacist about a dedicated pregnancy supplement instead.
Is it vegan, and what about allergens?
The capsule shell is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (plant cellulose), but Essensey doesn't label the product vegan. None of the ingredients is a major allergen, though the label warns it may contain milk, soy, gluten, eggs, fish, peanuts and nuts from the factory.
