How much L-tryptophan is in a serving?
Two capsules give 1,000mg of L-tryptophan, so each capsule holds 500mg. At two a day the 90 capsules last 45 days.
When should I take Essensey L-Tryptophan?
The label says two capsules with water, preferably 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime. Don't take more than two capsules a day.
What is L-tryptophan?
One of the nine essential amino acids, which means the body can't make it and has to get it from food such as turkey, milk, oats and seeds. It's the raw material the body uses to make serotonin and melatonin, but it has no authorised health claims, so we don't promise effects on sleep or mood.
Should I take it with food or on an empty stomach?
The label doesn't require food. Tryptophan competes with other amino acids from a protein-heavy meal, so many people take Essensey L-Tryptophan with water or a light carbohydrate snack in the evening instead.
Can I take it with antidepressants?
Don't combine it without asking your GP or pharmacist first. Tryptophan feeds the body's serotonin production, so it shouldn't be added to antidepressants or other medicines that affect serotonin without professional advice.
L-tryptophan or 5-HTP?

Who shouldn't take it?
The label says children and pregnant or breastfeeding women must not take it. It may contain milk, soya, cereals containing gluten, fish and peanuts.
