How much alpha-lipoic acid is in Essensey ALA?
250mg per capsule, so the two-capsule daily serving gives 500mg. A tub of 90 capsules is 45 days' supply.
How should I take the capsules?
Two capsules together, once a day, during a meal with plenty of water. Don't take more than two capsules in a day.
What is alpha-lipoic acid?
A sulphur-containing compound the body makes in small amounts and that also occurs in foods such as spinach, broccoli and offal. ALA has no authorised health claims in the UK, so we describe the dose rather than promise results.
Can I take ALA if I'm on medication?
Check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take any regular medication, especially for blood sugar or thyroid. The Essensey label itself says children and pregnant or breastfeeding women must not take it.
Does it smell?
Alpha-lipoic acid has a faint sulphurous smell, so a slight odour when you open the tub is normal. Keep the lid closed, store it somewhere cool and dry, and use it within three months of opening as the label asks.
