What is HemCalm used for?
Boiron's label says HemCalm tablets temporarily relieve haemorrhoid symptoms such as burning, itching, swelling, pain and discomfort, including after childbirth. The box states these uses are based on traditional homeopathic practice, not accepted medical evidence.
How do I take the tablets?
Adults and children 12 and over: when symptoms start, let 2 tablets dissolve under the tongue every 2 hours, up to 6 times a day. No water is needed, and under-12s should only use HemCalm on a doctor's advice.
How long does a pack of 60 last?
Five days at the label maximum of 12 tablets a day, longer if you need fewer doses. The label says to stop and ask a doctor if symptoms last more than 7 days or get worse.
What's in each tablet?
Three homeopathic actives at 0.83mg each: Aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut) 6X, Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) 6X and Nux vomica 12X. The tablet base is lactose with croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.
Can I take HemCalm if I'm lactose intolerant?
Ask a pharmacist first: lactose is the main inactive ingredient in HemCalm tablets. The amount per tablet is small, but it matters if you avoid milk sugars completely.
When should I see a doctor instead?
Ask a doctor before use if there is any bleeding, and if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, check with a health professional first. Keep the blisters below 30°C and don't use a tablet if its blister seal is broken.
Tablets, ointment or suppositories?
