What are HemCalm Suppositories used for?
The US label says Boiron HemCalm Suppositories temporarily relieve haemorrhoid symptoms such as burning, itching, swelling, pain and discomfort, and help shrink swollen haemorrhoids. The box states these uses are based on traditional homeopathic practice, not accepted medical evidence.
How do I use them?
Adults and children from 12: gently clean the area with mild soap and warm water, rinse and pat dry, then insert one suppository rectally in the morning and one at night. At that rate the box of 10 lasts five days.
What's in each suppository?
Four plant-based homeopathic actives at 0.01g each: Aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut) 7X, Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) 2X, Paeonia officinalis (peony) 2X and Ratanhia 7X. They sit in a hard-fat base, with no parabens, dyes or preservatives.
Can I use HemCalm after giving birth?
Relief of haemorrhoid symptoms following childbirth is one of the label's listed uses. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, Boiron asks you to check with a health professional before using HemCalm.
When should I see a doctor instead?
Ask a doctor before use if there's any bleeding, and stop and see a doctor if symptoms carry on or get worse. Children under 12 should only use them on a doctor's advice.
Why has my suppository gone soft?
The base is hard fat, which changes shape in warmth, so keep the box below 30°C and away from radiators and sunny windowsills. Don't use a suppository if its seal is broken.
Suppositories, ointment or tablets?
Suppositories deliver the remedy internally. We also stock Boiron HemCalm Ointment 30g, which you apply to the area, and HemCalm 60 Tablets, which dissolve in the mouth; ask a pharmacist if you're unsure which suits your symptoms.
