What is Chestal Kids used for?
According to its US label, Chestal Kids temporarily relieves dry cough from minor throat and bronchial irritation with a cold, and helps relieve chest congestion from common colds by loosening mucus. The label adds that these claims are based on traditional homeopathic practice, not accepted medical evidence.
What age is it for?
Children aged 4 and over. For children under 4, the label says to ask a doctor.
How do I give the pellets?
At the first signs, dissolve 5 pellets under your child's tongue every hour, then give them less often as things improve. No water or spoon is needed.
How many doses are in the pack?
Two tubes of about 80 pellets each, 160 in total, which is about 32 doses of 5 pellets.
When should we see a doctor?
Stop and ask a doctor if the cough lasts more than 7 days, comes back, or comes with fever, rash or a persistent headache. The label also says to ask a doctor before use if your child's cough brings up a lot of phlegm or is chronic, as with asthma.
Does it contain sugar or lactose?
Yes — the pellets are made of lactose and sucrose, with 0.25g of sugar per 5-pellet dose. Bear that in mind if your child is lactose intolerant.
