What is Chestal Kids Honey used for?
Its label says Boiron Chestal Kids Honey temporarily relieves dry cough from minor throat and bronchial irritation, as with a cold, and helps relieve chest congestion by loosening mucus. These uses are based on traditional homeopathic practice, not accepted medical evidence.
How much do I give, and how often?
5ml in the dosing cup provided, every 2 hours at the onset of symptoms; newer US cartons cap it at 5 doses a day. Follow the age band printed on your box, because older labels say 2 to 11 years and newer ones 4 to 11, and don't give it to younger children.
When should I stop and see a doctor?
Stop and ask a doctor or pharmacist if the cough lasts more than 7 days, keeps coming back, or comes with a fever, rash or persistent headache. The label also says to check first if your child has a persistent or chronic cough, such as with asthma, or a cough with a lot of phlegm.
What's in it?
Nine homeopathic actives at 3C or 6C, including Drosera, Bryonia, Ipecacuanha, Rumex crispus and Spongia tosta. The syrup base is honey, sucrose, purified water, citric acid and sodium benzoate, with about 4g of sugar in each 5ml dose.
Does it contain alcohol, and will it make my child drowsy?
The carton says Chestal Kids Honey is 99.99% alcohol-free and non-drowsy, so it can be used day or night. Don't use it if your child is allergic to any of the ingredients.
How long does a bottle last once opened?
The 200ml bottle holds 40 doses of 5ml. The label says to throw it away 1 year after opening, and not to use it if the seal under the cap is broken or missing.
Chestal Kids Honey or Chestal Honey?
Chestal Kids Honey is the children's version, with a 5ml dosing cup and age-based directions. Boiron Chestal Honey, which we also stock, is the general version, so follow the directions on whichever box you buy.
