What kind of cough is Chestal Honey for?
Both kinds the label names: it temporarily relieves dry cough from minor throat and bronchial irritation, as with a cold, and helps loosen mucus to make chesty coughs more productive. It's a homeopathic medicine, so those uses rest on traditional homeopathic practice.
How much do adults take?
Adults and children 12 and over take 10ml every 2 hours when symptoms start, up to 8 times a day, using only the cup supplied. That's 20 adult doses per 200ml bottle.
Can younger children have it?
Yes, from the age on your carton: children up to 11 take 5ml every 2 hours, up to 5 times a day. Current Boiron labels set the lower age at 4 (some older packs said 2), and for little ones we also stock Boiron Chestal Kids Honey.
Does it contain sugar or alcohol?
A little of both: each 5ml has about 4g of sugar from sucrose and honey, and the label lists alcohol at 0.00007%. The other ingredients are citric acid, purified water and sodium benzoate.
When should I see a doctor?
Stop and ask a doctor if the cough lasts more than 7 days, keeps coming back, or comes with a fever, rash or persistent headache. Ask before using Chestal Honey if you have a long-term cough from smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema, or a cough with a lot of phlegm.
Can I use it if I'm pregnant?
Ask a health professional first, as the label advises for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. Don't use it if you're allergic to any of the ingredients.
How long does it keep once opened?
The label says to throw it away 1 year after opening, and not to use it if the seal under the cap is broken or missing.
