How much iodine is in a serving?
Three drops (0.2 ml) give 255 mcg of iodine as potassium iodide, 150% of the daily reference intake. Ultra Lyte Iodine holds 295 servings in its 59 ml bottle.
How long does a bottle last?
About 295 days, nearly ten months, at the full three drops a day. Shake the bottle before each use; the label says up to three drops, so fewer is fine if you already get iodine from milk, fish or a multivitamin.
Why take it with juice or food?
Ionic iodine is highly concentrated and has a very strong mineral taste, so the label says to take it with juice or food to mask the flavour. Don't exceed three drops a day.
What does iodine do?
Iodine contributes to normal thyroid function and the normal production of thyroid hormones, normal energy-yielding metabolism and normal cognitive function. It also contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system and the maintenance of normal skin.
Who tends to look for an iodine supplement?
Milk, dairy and white fish are the main UK sources of iodine, so people who are vegan or avoid dairy and fish often look for one. Ultra Lyte Iodine is labelled suitable for vegetarians and vegans and has zero calories.
Is it OK if I have a thyroid condition?
Check with your GP first if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication, because iodine intake affects how the thyroid works. Also count iodine from other supplements, as one serving is already 150% of the reference intake.
