How strong are these Tums?
Each Tums Sugar-Free tablet has 750mg of calcium carbonate (Extra Strength 750), which provides 300mg of elemental calcium. The bottle holds 80 tablets in strawberry-banana, raspberry and watermelon flavours.
What are they for?
The US Drug Facts list relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach and upset stomach associated with these symptoms.
How many can I take?
Adults and children aged 12 and over chew 2–4 tablets as symptoms occur, chewing or crushing them completely before swallowing. Don't take more than 10 in 24 hours (6 if you're pregnant), and don't use the maximum dose for more than 2 weeks unless a doctor advises it.
How are they sweetened?
With sorbitol and sucralose instead of sugar, so the Sugar-Free Melon Berry tablets suit people cutting down on sugar. They also contain the colours Red 40 and Yellow 5 (tartrazine) and are labelled gluten-free.
Can I take them with prescription medicines?
Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take any prescription drug, as the label directs. If heartburn keeps coming back for more than 2 weeks, see a doctor rather than keep taking antacids.
Sugar-free or regular Tums?
The antacid is the same 750mg of calcium carbonate; only the sweetener and flavours differ. Tums Antacid Extra Strength 96 tablets is the regular sugar-sweetened version we stock, and Tums Chewy Bites are a softer chew if you prefer that texture.
