What's in each TUMS Gas Relief Chewy Bite?
Each tablet combines 750mg calcium carbonate, the antacid, with 80mg simethicone, the anti-gas ingredient. The tub holds 54 lemon and strawberry chews with a crunchy shell and a soft, chewy centre.
What does the label say they relieve?
Heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach and upset stomach linked to these, plus the gas that comes with heartburn, sour stomach or acid indigestion. Ordinary TUMS Chewy Bites handle the acid symptoms but contain no simethicone.
How many can I take?
Adults and children 12 and over chew 1–2 tablets as symptoms occur. Don't take more than 6 in 24 hours, and don't use the maximum dose for more than 2 weeks unless a doctor tells you to.
Can I take them with my other medicines?
Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take a prescription medicine, because the label warns that antacids may interact with certain prescription drugs. Each tablet also provides about 300mg of calcium, worth knowing if you already take a calcium supplement.
Are they OK in pregnancy?
The US label gives the same limit if you're pregnant: no more than 6 tablets in 24 hours. Check with your midwife, GP or pharmacist before using any antacid regularly while pregnant.
Do they contain dyes or soy?
Check the inactive ingredients on the tub: versions of this formula list tartrazine (FD&C Yellow No. 5) and soy lecithin. They may not suit you if you avoid artificial colours or soy.
54-tablet tub or the 28-tablet pack?
