How much calcium carbonate is in each tablet?
750mg calcium carbonate per tablet, which supplies 300mg elemental calcium and 10mg magnesium. That's what the 750 in TUMS Extra Strength 750 refers to.
What is it used for?
The US label lists relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach and upset stomach associated with these symptoms. It's an antacid, so it neutralises acid that's already there rather than treating the cause.
How many tablets should I chew?
Adults and children aged 12 and over chew 2–4 tablets as symptoms occur, or as a doctor directs. Don't take more than 10 tablets in 24 hours.
Can I take TUMS while pregnant?
The label sets a lower limit in pregnancy: no more than 6 tablets in 24 hours. If you find you need them often, check with your midwife, GP or pharmacist.
Can I take it with prescription medicines?
Ask a doctor or pharmacist first — the TUMS label warns that antacids may interact with certain prescription drugs.
How long can I keep using it?
Don't use the maximum dose for more than 2 weeks except under a doctor's advice, and don't take it for symptoms that last longer than 2 weeks unless a doctor has told you to. Heartburn that keeps coming back needs a GP or pharmacist check.
Is it sugar-free?
No — the tablets contain sucrose, dextrose and maltodextrin, plus colours including FD&C Yellow 6. TUMS Sugar Free Melon Berry 80 Count, which we also stock, is the sugar-free option; check its strength on its own label.
