Ingredients
Base: Maltodextrins for sustained energy release. Acidity Regulators: Citric acid and malic acid to ensure a refreshing taste. Mineral Complex: Includes sodium citrate, calcium salts of orthophosphoric acid, magnesium carbonate, sodium chloride, and potassium carbonate. Flavor Enhancers: Aromas and sweeteners (sodium saccharinate, sodium cyclamate) for flavour; the drink also contains sucrose and dextrose (28g sugars per 40g serving). How do I make up Isotonic Sport?
Mix one 40g serving into 500ml of water. The label's daily portion is 80g, so that's up to two bottles a day, usually one before and one during training; the 1000g tub holds 25 servings.
How much sugar is in a serving?
Quite a lot, by design: each 40g serving has 36g of carbohydrate, 28g of it sugars, from sucrose, dextrose and maltodextrin, for 144kcal. Isotonic Sport is fuel for long or hard sessions rather than an everyday soft drink.
Which electrolytes and vitamins does it give?
Per 40g: 242mg sodium (0.61g salt), 231mg chloride, 122mg calcium and 60mg magnesium, plus 25% of the reference intake of vitamin C, vitamin E and eight B vitamins. Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance, and vitamin C, niacin, vitamin B6 and B12 contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Why are taurine, tyrosine and carnitine in it?
Trec adds 500mg taurine, 300mg L-tyrosine and 204mg L-carnitine to each Isotonic Sport serving. None of the three has an authorised health claim in the UK, so think of them as part of Trec's recipe; there is no caffeine in the panel.
Can children or pregnant women drink it?
No — Trec states the product isn't intended for children or for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Adults shouldn't go over the 80g daily portion either.
Should I buy the 1000g tub, the 400g tub or Vitargo?
Trec Isotonic Sport 400g is the smaller tub if you want to try it first, and the 1000g Watermelon tub suits regular endurance training. Trec Vitargo Electro Energy, which we also stock, is built on Vitargo carbohydrate instead of sucrose and dextrose.
