600mcg DFE folate as L-methylfolate, 27mg iron, 290mcg iodine, 13mg zinc, 1.3mg copper, 15mcg vitamin D3, 120mg vitamin C, 19mg vitamin E, 650mcg vitamin A as beta-carotene and the B vitamins, including 2.8mcg B12. It's one tablet a day.
Does it contain retinol?
No — the vitamin A in PeaPod Prenatal comes entirely from beta-carotene. UK guidance is to avoid supplements containing retinol in pregnancy, which is one reason prenatals differ from everyday multivitamins.
Does the folate cover the NHS folic acid advice?
PeaPod gives folate as L-methylfolate, 600mcg DFE, and folate contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy. The NHS advice is written in terms of 400mcg folic acid, so ask your GP or midwife whether this suits you, especially if you've been prescribed a higher dose.
How do I take it, and how long does a bottle last?
One tablet a day; the label says it's for adults only. A bottle of 60 lasts two months. If it makes you queasy, try taking it with a meal or in the evening.
How much vitamin D and iodine does it give?
15mcg of vitamin D3 and 290mcg of iodine (from potassium iodide). The NHS recommends 10mcg of vitamin D a day in pregnancy, so PeaPod covers that on its own.
Is there any warning about the iron?
