What is in a serving of PeaPod Cal-Mag?
Two capsules give 500mg calcium (as carbonate and citrate-malate), 200mg magnesium (as oxide and citrate) and 0.6mcg vitamin D3. That is 63% of the UK reference intake for calcium and 53% for magnesium.
How do I take it, and how long does the bottle last?
Two capsules a day with a meal, or as your midwife or GP directs. The 60-capsule bottle is a 30-day supply.
Who is Cal-Mag for?
Fairhaven makes PeaPod Cal-Mag for women before conception, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, alongside a prenatal multivitamin. Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, and magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Does it cover my vitamin D?
No — 0.6mcg (24 IU) is only a small amount, and the NHS advises 10mcg of vitamin D a day during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Most women get that from their prenatal vitamin or a separate vitamin D supplement.
Can I take it with my prenatal vitamin?
Yes, that is how it is meant to be used, because multivitamins rarely fit full amounts of calcium and magnesium. Add up the calcium and magnesium on both labels and check the total with your midwife or pharmacist; we also stock PeaPod Prenatal Multivitamins 60 Tablets.
Will it stop pregnancy leg cramps?
We can't promise that, as Cal-Mag isn't a treatment for cramps. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, but tell your midwife about cramps that are frequent, painful or one-sided.
Is it vegetarian and allergy-friendly?
The capsule is plant cellulose, and the only other ingredients are leucine and rice bran lipid. Fairhaven makes it free from gluten, dairy, soy, egg, nuts, sesame, fish and shellfish.
