Casein Protein

Casein is the slower-digesting milk protein: thick when mixed and popular as an evening or between-meal shake. We stock Trec Nutrition Casein 100 in a 600g jar for trying the habit and an 1800g jar for regular use, both in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry.

Casein or whey?

Both come from milk: roughly 80% of milk protein is casein and 20% is whey. Whey is digested quickly, while casein thickens in the stomach and releases its amino acids over several hours. That slow release is why lifters use casein before bed or when there will be a long gap between meals, and whey around training. The authorised claims are the same for both: protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass and to the maintenance of muscle mass, and to the maintenance of normal bones.

Using Trec Casein 100

Follow the serving on the label. Mix with plenty of liquid for a drink, or with a splash of milk and leave it to set for a pudding-style bowl; chocolate works best for that. Casein mixes much thicker than whey, so use a little more liquid than you would for a whey shake if you want something drinkable, and give it an extra few seconds in a shaker with a mesh insert.

Alternatives

Casein Protein: your questions answered

When should I take casein protein?

Most people have it in the evening or before bed, or whenever there will be a long gap before the next meal. Your total daily protein matters more than the exact time.

Can I take casein and whey on the same day?

Yes. A common routine is whey after training and casein at night; just count both towards your daily protein total and keep to each label's serving.

How do I make a casein pudding?

Mix a scoop with a small splash of milk or water and stir until it thickens, then leave it for a few minutes. Chocolate Casein 100 sets into something close to a mousse.

Is casein suitable for lactose intolerance?

Casein is a milk protein and contains some lactose, so check the label and your own tolerance. It is not suitable for anyone with a milk allergy.

Should I buy the 600g or 1800g jar?

Start with 600g if you are new to casein or unsure about a flavour. Switch to the 1800g jar once it becomes a nightly habit, as it is cheaper per serving.
