How much silymarin is in each capsule?
Each veg capsule has 300 mg milk thistle seed extract standardised to 80% silymarin flavonoids, which is 240 mg. It also contains 100 mg dandelion root and 50 mg artichoke leaf.
What does 'Double Strength' mean?
NOW Milk Thistle Double Strength has twice the extract per capsule of NOW's regular-strength product: 300 mg against 150 mg. You get the same intake from half the capsules.
How many capsules a day, and how long does the bottle last?
One capsule 1 to 3 times a day, preferably with meals. The 100 capsules last 100 days at one a day or about 33 days at three.
What does milk thistle do?
Milk thistle, dandelion and artichoke have no authorised health claims in the UK, so we don't make liver or detox promises. The 'Detox & Liver Support' wording on the US bottle isn't a claim we can repeat here.
Who shouldn't take it?
The label says it's for adults only and to consult a doctor if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition. All three herbs belong to the daisy family, so check with a pharmacist if you're allergic to plants in that family.
Is it vegan and allergen-free?
Yes. It's labelled vegetarian/vegan in a hypromellose capsule, with no yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients, though it's made in a facility that handles them.
NOW Milk Thistle or Essensey Milk Thistle 500mg?
We stock both. NOW states its silymarin content (240 mg per capsule) and adds dandelion and artichoke; when you compare with Essensey Milk Thistle 500 mg, look at the silymarin figure on each label rather than the headline milligrams.
