Questions

Your questions, answered

How do I use it?

Cooks, Bakes, & Tastes Just Like Sugar.1 Cup Lakanto Sweetener = 1 Cup Sugar.

What's in it?

Erythritol, monk fruit extract.

Anything I should know?

Store in a cool, dry place.

I'm sweetener-sceptical - is this small Golden pouch the right way to test monk fruit?

It's the lowest-commitment way in: 235g is enough for a few proper bakes and your morning porridge for a couple of weeks. If it earns its place, the 454g and 800g bags take over at a better price per gram.

Can I do a straight 1:1 swap for brown sugar in banana bread?

Yes - measure it like the brown sugar in the recipe, per the label. Banana bread is a forgiving place to start too, because the fruit keeps the crumb moist where erythritol alone can bake a little drier than sugar.

What's the catch versus real brown sugar?

One honest difference: erythritol doesn't caramelise or brown the way sugar does, so expect paler bakes and slightly less chew. It can also firm up as things cool - store bakes airtight and they stay at their best. In a spiced, fruited bake like banana bread, most people can't pick the difference.

Any weird aftertaste I should brace for?

Monk fruit itself has no bitter edge - what some people notice with erythritol blends is a brief cooling feel, a bit like mint without the flavour. It's mildest in baked goods and warm drinks, and most people stop noticing it after a few uses.

Individual results may vary.
