Hyland's Smile's Prid Homeopathic Drawing Salve

What is Smile's Prid used for?

The tin's label lists temporary topical relief of pain and irritation from boils, minor skin eruptions and redness, plus minor skin irritations, superficial cuts and scratches. Hyland's newer PRID packaging adds that it may help draw out splinters and ingrown hairs. It is a homeopathic product and these uses have not been evaluated by the FDA.

How do I apply Prid?

Wash the area with hot water, dry it, and apply Prid twice a day on a clean bandage or gauze, without squeezing or pressing the irritated skin. Once the irritation subsides, apply once a day for several more days.

What are the active ingredients?

The 18g tin lists Arnica 3X, Calendula 3X, Carbolicum Acidum 2X, Echinacea angustifolia 3X, Hepar Sulph Calc 12X, Ichthammol 2X, Silicea 12X and Sulphur 12X (HPUS). The salve is brown to dark brown, so a bandage over it protects clothing.

Can I use Prid on children?

Check the age guidance on your pack: the Smile's Prid directions say to consult a doctor before use on children under 2, while Hyland's newer PRID packaging is labelled for adults and children 6 and over. If in doubt, ask a pharmacist first.

Where should I not use it?

Not in the eyes, mouth or nose, and not on deep puncture wounds, animal bites, serious burns or open wounds. It is for external use only.

When should I stop and see a doctor?

Contact a GP or pharmacist if symptoms last more than 7 days or get worse, if irritation, pain, swelling or redness keeps increasing, or if a fever develops. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Hyland's current label says to ask a health professional before use.
