What is Hyland's Nerve Tonic used for?
Per its US Drug Facts, Nerve Tonic is a homeopathic medicine that temporarily relieves symptoms of restlessness, anxiousness, nervousness, irritability and apprehensiveness. Hyland's states these claims are based on traditional homeopathic practice, not accepted medical evidence.
What's in the tablets?
Five phosphate cell salts at 3X potency: Calcarea phosphorica, Ferrum phosphoricum, Kali phosphoricum, Magnesia phosphorica and Natrum phosphoricum. The tablet base is acacia gum and lactose, with no vitamins or herbs.
How do I take it?
Adults and children 12 and over dissolve 1-2 tablets under the tongue 3 times a day; children aged 6 to under 12 take 1 tablet 3 times a day. For sudden onset, the label allows a dose every 15 minutes until relieved, up to 6 doses.
How long does a bottle of 50 last?
About 8 days for an adult taking 2 tablets 3 times a day, or about 16 days at 1 tablet 3 times a day. Sudden-onset dosing uses them up faster.
Is Nerve Tonic suitable if I avoid lactose?
No. Lactose is one of the two inactive ingredients, so Hyland's Nerve Tonic isn't suitable for people who avoid lactose or dairy, or for vegans.
When should I see a doctor instead?
Stop and ask a doctor if symptoms last more than 7 days or get worse, and ask a health professional before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Ongoing anxiety or low mood deserves a GP appointment rather than self-treatment.
