What is the active ingredient in Lip Clear Lysine+?
Menthol 0.1%. The US Drug Facts list Lip Clear Lysine+ as a cold sore and fever blister treatment that temporarily relieves the tingling, itching, burning, blistering and pain that come with cold sores.
How often can I apply it?
Adults and children aged 2 and over can apply it liberally as needed, and the label says it works best applied every 2 hours. Wash your hands before and after each application.
Where does the lysine come in?
Lysine is part of the ointment base, alongside beeswax, olive oil, honey, propolis, calendula, echinacea, goldenseal, tea tree and cajeput oils, zinc oxide and vitamins A, D3 and E. Menthol is the only active ingredient; the rest are listed as inactive.
Is it suitable if I'm allergic to bee products?
Check with a pharmacist first. Lip Clear Lysine+ contains beeswax, honey and propolis, as well as tea tree oil, so it isn't a good choice if you react to any of them.
When should I stop and see a doctor?
Stop and ask a doctor if the cold sore gets worse, or if symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and keep coming back. It is for external use only, so keep it out of your eyes, and get medical help if any is swallowed.
How should I store the 7g tube?
At room temperature, away from excessive heat, so don't leave it on a sunny dashboard. Close the cap tightly after each use, and keep the tube to yourself while you have a cold sore.
