What does New-Skin Liquid Bandage Spray do?
Per its US Drug Facts, New-Skin Liquid Bandage Spray is a first aid antiseptic with benzethonium chloride 0.2%, used to help prevent bacterial contamination in minor cuts and scrapes. It sprays on and dries to a protective film over the area.
How do I use the spray?
Clean the area and shake the New-Skin can well, then spray a small amount on 1 to 3 times a day and let it dry. Add a second coat if you want extra protection.
Spray or the New-Skin brush-on bottle?
Same active ingredient, different applicator. The spray is no-touch and quick over grazes on knees and elbows, while the 1oz brush-on bottle we also sell paints precisely onto small cuts, fingertips and knuckles.
How do I get it off, and what if the nozzle stops spraying?
To remove it, spray on a little more and quickly wipe it off. If the valve won't spray, the label suggests scratching across the spray hole with a fingernail.
When shouldn't I use it?
Not in or near the eyes, on mucous membranes, over stitches, over large areas, on infected or draining wounds, with creams or lotions, or for more than a week unless a doctor says so. Ask a doctor first about deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, serious burns or bleeding, or if you have diabetes or poor circulation.
Any safety tips for the aerosol can?
It is flammable and under pressure: keep it away from flames, don't puncture or burn the can, and don't store it above 49°C, so never leave it in a hot car. Expect a brief sting as it goes on, and spray over a sink because it stains floors and worktops.
