What's in a three-capsule serving?
20 vitamins and minerals, including 40mcg vitamin D, 4mg vitamin B6 (as P5P), 680mcg DFE methylfolate, 6mcg B12 and 15mg zinc, plus a 495mg herbal blend of hops, black cohosh, wild yam, DGL licorice, chaste tree, maca, ginkgo, indole-3-carbinol and DIM. The amount of each herb in the blend isn't disclosed.
How many capsules a day, and how long does a bottle last?
The serving is three capsules a day, so the 90-capsule bottle of BalanceBlend is 30 servings, a one-month supply.
Will BalanceBlend stop hot flushes?
No supplement can promise that, and the herbs in BalanceBlend have no authorised UK health claims. What we can say is that vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity and vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones; for flushes or poor sleep that disrupt your life, your GP can talk you through HRT and other options.
Can I take it with HRT or other medicines?
Ask your GP or pharmacist first: it contains black cohosh, chaste tree, hops, ginkgo and licorice, which can matter alongside hormone treatments and blood thinners. Stop and see a doctor if you notice signs of liver problems such as yellowing skin or eyes or dark urine, which the MHRA links to black cohosh.
Does it contain soy or hormones?
No — there's no soy, isoflavones or hormones in the formula. Wild yam and hops are plant extracts, not hormones, and BalanceBlend isn't a substitute for HRT.
Is it vegetarian and gluten-free?
Yes — Fairhaven labels BalanceBlend vegetarian, gluten-free and free from artificial colours and preservatives. The capsule is hypromellose, with microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide.
