Your questions, answered
What's in PregEase?
Two chewable tablets give 10mg vitamin B6, 1mcg vitamin B12 and 110mg calcium (as calcium carbonate). There's also a 175mg blend of kombu seaweed, deglycyrrhizinated liquorice, lemon balm, ginger root and the digestive enzymes amylase, lipase and protease.
How many should I chew a day?
Two tablets a day, per the Fairhaven label, so the 120 tablets last 60 days. Finish the tub within 60 days of opening.
Can PregEase help with morning sickness?
PregEase is made for the queasy months of pregnancy and pairs ginger with vitamin B6, but as a food supplement it can't claim to treat sickness. Vitamin B6 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to the regulation of hormonal activity; if you're being sick often or can't keep fluids down, contact your midwife or GP.
Is 10mg of vitamin B6 OK, and can I take it with my prenatal?
The UK Food Standards Agency says 10mg or less of vitamin B6 a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm, and PregEase gives exactly 10mg at the label dose. If your prenatal multivitamin, such as PeaPod Prenatal, also contains B6, show both labels to your midwife or pharmacist before combining them.
What does it taste like?
Orange cream: the tablets are sweetened with xylitol and stevia leaf extract and flavoured with natural orange and cream flavours. Each two-tablet serving has 5 calories and 2g carbohydrate.
Why is there liquorice in it?
It's deglycyrrhizinated liquorice (DGL), a form with most of the glycyrrhizin removed, and it sits in the 175mg herbal blend with lemon balm and ginger. If you've been told to avoid liquorice or have high blood pressure, check with your midwife first.
