How to apply it
Clean the affected area thoroughly. Apply a small amount of Neosporin on the wound one to three times daily. Cover with a sterile bandage if needed.

What is Neosporin Original used for?
Neosporin Original is for first aid to help prevent infection in minor cuts, scrapes and burns; that is the single use on its US label. The 0.5oz (14.2g) tube is a compact size for a home or travel first-aid kit.
Which antibiotics does it contain?
Three per gram: bacitracin zinc 400 units, neomycin sulfate 3.5 mg and polymyxin B sulfate 5,000 units. They sit in a petrolatum base with cottonseed oil, olive oil, cocoa butter, sodium pyruvate and vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate).
How much should I apply, and how often?
Clean the area, then apply a small amount, about the size of your fingertip's surface, one to three times a day. You can cover it with a sterile dressing or plaster.
How long can I keep using it?
Up to a week on your own: the Neosporin label says to stop and ask a doctor if you need it for longer than 1 week, if the wound persists or gets worse, or if a rash or other allergic reaction develops.
When should I not use it?
Not in the eyes or over large areas of the body. The label says to ask a doctor before using it on deep or puncture wounds, animal bites or serious burns.
I'm allergic to neomycin - can I use Neosporin Original?
No. The label says not to use it if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, and neomycin is one of its three antibiotics, alongside bacitracin and polymyxin B.
