How much SAM-e is in each tablet?
400mg of SAM-e (S-adenosyl-L-methionine, as the stabilised disulfate tosylate salt) per tablet, twice the 200mg in standard-strength products. SAM-e has no authorised health claims in the UK, so we describe the product rather than its effects.
How do I take it?
One tablet a day between meals, swallowed whole: don't chew or crush it. At one a day the 60 tablets last two months.
Why is it enteric-coated and blister-packed?
SAM-e breaks down easily with moisture and stomach acid. Each Doctor's Best tablet is sealed in its own blister and enteric-coated so it passes through the stomach before dissolving, so keep tablets in the blister until you take them.
Can I take it with antidepressants?
Not without advice: the label says anyone on antidepressant medication should speak to their prescribing doctor before using Doctor's Best SAM-e. It also says people diagnosed with bipolar disorder should avoid SAM-e.
Can I take it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — the label says not to use it if you're pregnant or nursing.
Any side effects?
The label notes stomach discomfort in a small percentage of people. If it doesn't settle, stop and speak to a pharmacist.
Is it vegetarian?
Yes — the tablets are listed as vegetarian, gluten-free, soy-free and non-GMO. Store them in a cool, dry place.
