Caprylic acid was first popularized as a dietary supplement by Dr. William Crook, author of the famous book on internal ecology, The Yeast Connection. Today it's widely used as a companion to other effective supplements, such as acidophilus and FOS, for healthy microbial balance. It's also gaining popularity among athletes, who appreciate it for its quick energy. Caprylic acid is a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT), a type of lipid that is not digested in the gut, but rather in the liver, like carbohydrates. As such, they deliver quick energy--more than twice that delivered by glucose.
